Generosity Shines as Community Comes Together for a Magical Christmas



The<a href="https://ssia.org.uk/"> Skipton Step Into Action</a> Christmas Elves appeal 2023 has wrapped up another successful year, thanks to the overwhelming support from the local community. A heartfelt message from the organiser extends gratitude to donors and volunteers who played a crucial role in making Christmas special for 152 children across 59 families in Skipton and its surrounding villages.



The appeal, which saw an outpouring of generosity, managed to raise approximately £9500 through monetary donations, gifts, and other items. This substantial sum has been directly channelled towards ensuring that each child received a tailored Christmas present, valued up to £25, making sure that their wishes came true.

Parents were given the opportunity to request specific gifts for their children, and the organisers went above and beyond by supplementing the presents with a selection box, hand-knitted hats or scarves, books, games, toys, stationery, craft kits, and accessories.



A team of 45 dedicated volunteers played a pivotal role in the success of the appeal, from promoting it to local communities and businesses to collecting, sorting, wrapping, and delivering 152 bags of presents.

Reflecting on the community&#8217;s generosity, <a href="https://ssia.org.uk/">Skipton Step Into Action</a> expressed gratitude for the privilege of bringing together those in need with those willing to help. The impact of this initiative was clearly visible through the heartfelt feedback received from the families supported:

&#8220;I couldn&#8217;t believe the presents; each child got personalized stockings. It really made me feel the kindness and magic of Christmas.&#8221;

After a year of prices falling in 2023, global property consultancy Knight Frank has changed its prediction. They now expect UK house prices to increase by 3% in 2024, overturning the earlier estimate of a 4% drop.



Against a backdrop of decreasing inflation and growing excitement about potential interest rate cuts, Knight Frank believes that the recent increase in mortgage approvals will lead to a significant rise in property transactions. They predict a potential increase of at least 10% in transactions throughout the year.



Adding to the positive outlook, the online property website <a href="https://www.rightmove.co.uk/">Rightmove</a> reports a considerable rise in asking prices for new sellers. Between December and January, asking prices went up by an average of 1.3%, equal to £4,571. This increase is the most significant for this time of year since before the pandemic, suggesting a strong and thriving UK housing market in 2024. A new build Skipton home for Christmas

We&#8217;re excited to share the progress on our final two homes at <a href="https://www.skiptonproperties.com/developments/bolton-gardens/" class="ek-link">Bolton Gardens, Silsden</a> &#8211; <a href="https://www.skiptonproperties.com/property/the-barn-plot-76/" class="ek-link">The Taylor House Type</a>. We kicked off our charitable endeavours by contributing 30 selection boxes to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/434860051589873/" class="ek-link">Friends of Foulridge</a> for their annual Christmas event. The event, held in aid of <a href="https://www.curryonthestreet.co.uk/?fbclid=IwAR2BaoNpx5DNYX42ko5csIj2kckAwn8rCcbTjoZzjoqb0_I66Bhk0R7fu88" class="ek-link">Curry on the Street,</a> aims to support this incredible organisation that provides warm meals, shelter, and essential mental health advice to those who need it most. Our contribution ensures that the Christmas spirit is felt by all, even in challenging times. We then asked Maureen (who helped organise the event) to open our Show Home at <a href="https://www.skiptonproperties.com/developments/croft-mill-foulridge/" class="ek-link">Croft Mill, Foulridge</a> officially!

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.opendoorcentre.org.uk/" class="ek-link">Colne Open Door Centre</a> Receives Two Large Boxes of Toys for Gift Hampers</h3>



<a href="https://www.opendoorcentre.org.uk/" class="ek-link">Colne Open Door Centre</a>, an organisation dedicated to community welfare, received a generous donation in the form of two large boxes of toys. The toys will be a part of over 250 gift hampers arranged by the centre for young children in the community. These hampers, complete with wrapping paper and Sellotape, allow parents and guardians to actively participate in the joy of giving during the holiday season. Skipton Properties is proud to support <a href="https://www.opendoorcentre.org.uk/" class="ek-link">Colne Open Door Centre</a> in their mission to provide counselling, unemployment advice, and free food parcels to those in need.



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><a href="https://www.thehivesilsden.co.uk/" class="ek-link">The Hive</a>, Silsden Benefits from Skipton Properties&#8217; Chocolate Donation</h3>



Skipton Properties also lent a helping hand to <a href="https://www.thehivesilsden.co.uk/" class="ek-link">The Hive</a> by donating lots of chocolates for their annual Christmas raffle. All proceeds from the raffle will directly contribute to the community-run centre&#8217;s initiatives. <a href="https://www.thehivesilsden.co.uk/" class="ek-link">The Hive</a> is a hub of activity, offering a wide range of programs for all age groups, from pre-natal care to creative workshops. Skipton Properties&#8217; contribution to the Christmas raffle ensures that The Hive can continue to provide valuable services to the community.
