Living in Skipton: a local’s guide from our Managing Director

Sarah Barraclough has lived in Skipton all her life. These are the places she loves, from first coffee to a Friday night.
Breakfast at Bean Loved
I’m a breakfast person, so my week often starts at Bean Loved on Otley Street. I’m there all the time, for a quick meeting or breakfast with the family at the weekend. If you love brunch and good coffee, you need to try it. My favourite is the sweet potato fritter stack. Like us, it’s a family business: Wes Bond and his dad, Steve, opened it in 2007 to bring speciality coffee to Skipton.
The high street
Skipton’s high street still feels like a town that looks after its own. Independent shops sit alongside the everyday ones, and I try to support them whenever I can. It’s one of the things I love most about living in Skipton.
Castle Woods, after a busy week
When I need to clear my head after a busy day or week, I walk Castle Woods. The path starts by Holy Trinity Church at the top of the High Street and runs past the walls of Skipton Castle, which has stood over the town since soon after 1090. From there, it follows Eller Beck on one side and the Springs Branch of the canal on the other, about two and a half miles through the trees, right in the middle of town.

An evening at Two Sisters
For a drink or a meal, it has to be Two Sisters on Mill Bridge. It’s a little slice of heaven. I love the décor, everyone always has a smile on their face, and you’ll probably bump into someone you know while you’re there.

Making Skipton home
That’s what I want for the people who buy our homes: a town where you know the people who make your coffee. Our final 2 and 3-bedroom homes are at The Oaks, on the quieter side of Skipton, about fifteen minutes’ walk from the high street. Come and see them. Our Sales Advisor, Karen, is at the show home Thursday to Monday, 10:30am to 5pm.
