At the edge of Oxenhope, work is now underway on The Carriages, a natural stone collection of three and four-bedroom homes shaped with care, in the heart of a village with real character. Designed to feel naturally at home among the traditional buildings that surround it, this considered collection of eight stone-built homes brings together thoughtful materials, balanced proportions and a calm rural-edge setting.

With green space on the doorstep, soft landscaping, ecology areas and most homes benefiting from west or south-west facing gardens, The Carriages offers a rare balance of quiet village living and everyday convenience. Each home will also include solar panels and EV chargers, supporting more energy-conscious living from the moment homeowners move in.

But building homes is only part of what it means to become part of a community.

A school at the heart of village life

Just minutes from The Carriages is Oxenhope Church of England Primary School, a school described by Head Teacher Alice Jones as “a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment that offers a sense of belonging.” With its inclusive ethos and strong sense of community, the school plays an important role in village life.

So when we heard that the children, teachers and Friends of Oxenhope School had been working incredibly hard to raise money for a new playground, we knew it was something we wanted to support.

The idea began with a teacher’s vision board for a much-needed playground upgrade. From there, the whole school community got behind the challenge. Children of all ages took part in a mile-a-day challenge, bake sales and other creative fundraising activities, including making dog treats to help raise money for their school.

An inspiring achievement

Their efforts were inspiring. Together, they had already raised an amazing £7,423 towards their £10,000 target. Even some of the Year 6 pupils, who will soon be moving on to secondary school and may not get to enjoy the finished playground themselves, put their full energy into supporting the cause.

To help them reach their goal, Verity & Co Homes donated £3,000, taking the fundraising total to over £10,000!

On Monday 15 June, Rob Wilkinson, our Operations Director, Jessica Hall, our Head of Sales, Mya, our Marketing Manager, and Poppy, our Marketing Assistant, walked from The Carriages to Oxenhope Primary School with a very special cheque in hand.

Planning the surprise

With help from the teachers and Friends of Oxenhope School, we planned a surprise for the children during their school assembly. The assembly was already a celebration of everything the pupils had achieved, with certificates and medals awarded to children who had gone above and beyond with their fundraising efforts.

The children were then told they had raised £7,423, and the room was full of excitement and applause.

Reaching the £10,000 target

Then Rob stepped forward with Jessica to share the surprise: Verity & Co Homes had donated the remaining funds needed to help them reach their £10,000 target.

The reaction was unforgettable.

The children were thrilled, the teachers were emotional, and for our team, it was a really special morning. Moments like this remind us why community matters so much. Building in a place like Oxenhope is about more than creating new homes. It is about understanding the people, the character and the everyday life that already makes the village what it is.

A privilege to support

Being able to support a local school, celebrate the children’s hard work and see the impact of that donation first-hand was a privilege.

At The Carriages, we are building homes shaped with care, quality and a strong sense of place. And as we continue our work in Oxenhope, we are proud to support a community that has already shown us so much heart.
