Why We Don’t Follow Interior Design Trends

This Saturday we’ll be opening the doors to our new show home at The Oaks in Skipton, and styling our homes is always one of my favourite parts of the process.

For me, a show home is an opportunity to illustrate the thinking that sits behind our houses. Not just how they look, but the atmosphere we’re trying to create through proportion, materials and finish. It’s a chance to show the level of care that goes into every home we build.

For this project we once again partnered with Abbie Lockett of Breathe Home Interiors, who has worked with us on our show homes at The Willows in Silsden and Pendle Farm in Worsthorne.

Personally, I’ve never been particularly drawn to trends. They can feel exciting in the moment, but they date quickly. Instead, I’ve always been more interested in interiors that feel timeless and dependable. Spaces that settle in quietly and continue to feel right for years to come.

I’m constantly inspired by designers who approach interiors in a similar way. Studios such as Millie Turner Designs, House Nine Design, Amber Interiors and Studio McGee, all create spaces that feel timeless rather than trend-led. Their work tends to focus on natural materials, layered textures and interiors that feel lived in rather than overly styled. It’s an approach that resonates strongly with how I think about our homes.

Design that doesn't overwhelm

Texture, muted tones and layering

My own aesthetic tends centres around this philosophy. Natural fabrics, soft greens, warm neutrals, light woods and woven materials that bring warmth without overwhelming the room. The aim is always to create a sense of calm, allowing the the design and flow of the home and quality of our build to lead.

In the Elliot, the three-bedroom home we’ve chosen for the show home, that thinking carries through each space. The kitchen and dining area is relaxed and sociable, the lounge soft and comfortable, and upstairs each bedroom introduces its own subtle character through panelling, wallpaper and layered textiles.

Nothing is overly styled. Instead, the interiors are designed to feel balanced and natural, quietly reinforcing the quality of the home itself.

(This collage to the left was my starting point when briefing the show home scheme, a collection of textures, colours and spaces that helped set the tone for the interiors.)
